The student-athletes of St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute received an early Christmas gift this year. Through a new partnership with IMPACT Sports Performance of Buffalo, the school has launched a revamped educational and competitive training program.
“Our teams compete at a high level, and many of our young men are multi-sport athletes,” said Brian Anken, St. Joe’s Athletic Director. “It was important to take our training to the next level, ensuring our student-athletes are learning proper form and technique to get stronger and remain healthy.”
Jason Jerome, the Director of Athletic Development for IMPACT, has already started working with the St. Joe’s students, utilizing the school’s fitness center which was renovated in 2014.
“We are excited to become an extension of the outstanding athletic department at St. Joe’s,” said Jerome. “Our program will focus on preparing the student-athletes to perform at the intensity expected of the athletes in the program, but in a safe environment that ultimately reduces injuries.”
The members of the IMPACT team have extensive sports medicine and sports performance knowledge and training. The group’s facility is located in HARBORCENTER, where the group conducts sport-specific training, nutritional evaluation, speed and agility training, and more. All of these services will be available to the athletes right on campus through this new partnership.
Anken went on to explain that coaches will now focus more of their time on skills specific to their sport, which should prove to be very beneficial not only for the success of the high school teams – but for those individuals working toward an opportunity to play at the collegiate level.
“After meeting Jason and his team, it was clear they had a genuine interest in the health of our students,” Anken continued. “We are thrilled to welcome the professionals of IMPACT Sports Performance to our school community.”
