Student Activities

Next week is Founder’s Week at St. Joe’s!  We will celebrate our Lasallian Heritage from Monday, May 12, to Friday, May 16. Each day, Campus Ministry will present activities related to the five core principles of Lasallian education.

Monday: As we focus on the core value of respect for all people, we will honor those who work behind the scenes at SJCI. The student body will recognize our amazing food service and facilities staff. Their work, selfless and often behind the scenes, ensures that Lasallian education runs smoothly daily. We will also exercise our value of concern for the poor & social justice by inviting students to write letters to their elected officials advocating for the poor and marginalized in our communities.

Tuesday:  We will focus on the core value of quality education. Great teachers are the essential ingredient of La Salle’s model of education. Students will celebrate our incredible faculty by writing letters and sharing affirmations for their teachers.

Wednesday: We will focus on the core value of inclusive community. We will celebrate our wider Lasallian community by praying for Lasallian schools and ministries that work most closely with the poor and marginalized in our country and our world. In addition, students can participate in a Lasallian Trivia game at lunch, testing their knowledge of our founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle.

Thursday: We will demonstrate the core value of faith in the presence of God as we come together as a whole school community to celebrate the Eucharist. This Mass will be a time to celebrate the vocation of the Christian Brothers. Our faculty and staff will also publicly renew their commitment to Lasallian education, and the Campus Ministry Team will introduce next year’s Lasallian Leadership Team.

Friday:  Day Off for Students, Faculty, and Staff!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. To raise awareness, the Counseling Center will sell this year's new SJCI Mental Health T-shirts. Each shirt is $10, and 50% of the proceeds will go to the Mental Health Advocates of WNY. They will be for sale in the Counseling Office until we sell out. Shirts are cash only. Please help us support a great cause!

There will be a meeting for students interested in playing soccer next year on Monday, May 12, at 2:40 p.m. in the Cullen Lecture Hall. If your son is hoping to play soccer in the fall of 2025, please plan for him to attend.

Auditions for the 2025-2026 Swing Choir will be held on Monday, May 19, and Tuesday, May 20, in the Cullen Center for the Arts beginning at 3:30 p.m.  Students only need to attend one audition day.  Students should prepare to sing one minute of a musical theatre song from a Broadway show that shows off their vocal range and abilities.  The song selected should also showcase their enjoyment of singing and performing. Students should bring sheet music in a binder or unstapled for the accompanist, and comfortable clothes and shoes to dance in. A short dance combination will be taught following the vocal audition. Callbacks will be held on Wednesday, May 28, beginning at 3:30 p.m. Students will be notified if they are called back after their initial audition.
