Get to know Coach Kevin Stadelmaier ’94: Head Coach of Varsity Maroon Hockey
From leading his team to championship games to serving as an attorney, Coach Kevin Stadelmaier shares his proudest moments, goals for the season, and advice keeping him focused on and off the ice.
What do you do outside of coaching?
I am an attorney and the head of the criminal division at the Erie County Assigned Counsel Program. We assign attorneys to criminally charged persons who cannot afford them and assist the attorneys in representing them with those cases. I am also the President-Elect of the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
What has been your proudest moment as a coach at St. Joe’s?
Making it to the "Super Sunday" championship game last season with many of the same group of players that I had during my first head coaching season at JV White in 2020. The way those boys performed last season is a cherished memory.
What are your goals for the team this season, and what challenges do you anticipate?
We're always in this to bring a championship back to St. Joes, especially for our Seniors. While the boys have done outstanding so far this year, staying healthy, focused, and finishing strong are always obstacles.
What’s one fun fact about you that people might not know?
I love to cook. Preparing and enjoying good food for and with friends/family is one my greatest pleasures.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received, on or off the field?
That today, right now, is the most important thing you will have done. Stay focused and present. As Gord Downie once said, "No dress rehearsal, this is our life." Work hard and enjoy the fruits of that work. There are no do-overs, and you can't change the past.
