Many of us engage in reflection and intention-setting at the beginning of a new year. Let us draw from the words of our Lasallian founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle, for guidance and wisdom as we set our New Year’s intentions.
1. “Be warm-hearted to everyone, speaking to others gently and respectfully.”
This year, our New Year’s intention can be in how we speak and our presence with one another. Perhaps 2025 can be the year of gentleness. We work daily to cultivate a warm heart and share that gentle spirit through our words and actions.
2. “Throw yourself into God’s arms. He will carry you when the road is rough.”
Many of us will walk on rough roads here in 2025. La Salle’s advice is one of surrender, to give up our sense of total control and trust in the vast and gentle arms of the Divine to carry us through the challenges of the new year.
3. “The miracles of God’s Providence take place every day.”
La Salle invites us to be attentive to the little moments of the new year. These are the everyday miracles of our lives, like a warm word from a friend, a moment of silence, the beauty of the sky, a deep exhale, a simple coincidence, or the subtle sensation of peace.
Blessings and peace to you this New Year.
