Fresh Courses, Creative Spaces

Fresh Courses: AP African American Studies:

St. Joe’s always looks for ways to provide our students fresh, engaging learning opportunities. Over the past few years, we’ve expanded our Advanced Placement offerings, and this year, we’re thrilled to introduce AP African American Studies—a course taught for the first time by Mr. Mike Stewart! It pulls from history, literature, the arts, geography, and science to explore African Americans' influential contributions and experiences throughout history, from ancient Africa to today.

Over the holiday break, students will read and examine chapters from poet and journalist Clint Smith's book “How The Word is Passed,” which explores the legacy of slavery.

Creative Spaces: Fine Arts

In addition to this exciting new course, we’ve expanded our Fine Arts department to match the growing demand for creative learning. We welcome Mrs. Heather Maher as our second full-time Visual Arts teacher, joining Mrs. Jess Scibetta. We’ve created a brand-new art classroom in the Innovation Center and our students have already created some amazing projects. Plus, we’re looking forward to the arrival of a new kiln later this year so our students can get hands-on with ceramics!
