In this “Year of the Brother,” the Campus Ministry Team has given each grade level a profound prayer experience during Community Time, specifically prayer services focused on Lasallian Prayer.
When St. John Baptist de La Salle was asked to give his Brothers instructions on prayer, he wrote a book called The Method of Interior Prayer. Inspired by his words, we teach a simple yet deep way of praying that is accessible for our students.
The Method of Interior Prayer has three steps that we describe for our students:
Step 1: I slow down and look inside
Step 2: I reflect specifically on the Presence of God
God around me
God within me
God in the Church
Step 3: I show gratitude
Campus Ministry invited student leaders from the Lasallian Leadership Team to give witness talks on how they experience this method of prayer, and each student is invited to reflect on how they connect with each of the elements of this prayer. Following the Junior Prayer Service, we heard this reflection from Owen Long, '26: “I try to ‘slow it down’ whenever I feel I’m under pressure or stressed out about something. When I do this, I try to remind myself that God is within me.”
We’re grateful for Owen and all of the St. Joe's students who are showing true brotherhood by slowing down and feeling God’s presence in their lives.
