Congratulations to the St. Joe’s Varsity Basketball team after a dominating season, securing the Manhattan Cup for the first time since 2008. Finishing first in Western New York and second in the state, the Marauders only let up one loss to Bishop Timon on March 5th.
Although no spectators were allowed in the building for the beginning of the season, the change in court atmosphere didn’t affect the team's successes. Season highlights include Jaden Slaughter ‘21 (Tournament MVP), leading the team in scoring with 18 in the first game and 25 in the final. Overall, the Marauders began the season with 11 unique scorers in the first game, and that distribution carried through the MMHSAA Championship.
Memorable moments from the season opener vs. Nichols include Demario Vass ‘22, Isaiah Odom ‘23, and Josh Warrington ‘22 scoring their first varsity career. Other features include John Haskell ‘21 achieving over 1,000 career points on 2/19 vs. Bishop Timon, heavily contributing to the overall success of that game’s win.
The team proved effective with sizable wins throughout the season against Nichols (82-48), St. Mary’s of Lancaster (86-48), and Canisius (87-72) The end result was not easy for the Marauder’s, winning close games towards the end of the season against St. Francis (79-78) and Park School (64-59).
Congratulations to the Marauders for an incredible season!
