At Our Core

Lasallian Identity

We celebrate our founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle, a 17th-century priest from Reims, France, who founded the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. De La Salle's revolutionary model of teaching and learning continues to guide and inspire us today.

De La Salle taught the importance of remembering that we are in the Holy Presence of God. To this day, all classes at Lasallian schools like St. Joe’s begin with this simple prayer:

Let us remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.

St. John Baptist de La Salle… Pray for us!
Live Jesus in our hearts… Forever!

De La Salle’s created a revolutionary model of teaching and learning.

He valued the EDUCATION FOR ALL STUDENTS, regardless of their wealth or status.

He valued a PRACTICAL EDUCATION, offering students skills and knowledge applicable to their everyday lives.

De La Salle preached a core message of “TOUCHING HEARTS,” encouraging teachers to form deep and meaningful relationships with their students.

Lasallian Schools Around the World

Today, the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools is the largest educational organization in the world.

As a Lasallian school, we hope to form graduates in the five principles of a Lasallian education.

UPON GRADUATION, A ST. JOE'S GENTLEMAN:

  1. Fosters their faith in the presence of God
  2. Demonstrates concern for the poor and social justice
  3. Displays respect for all persons
  4. Reveals the quality of a St. Joe’s education
  5. Builds inclusive communities

LASALLIAN FORMATION

We envision a school where everyone is formed and inspired by the life, teachings and spirituality of St. John Baptist de La Salle and the ongoing mission of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools.
