Dress Code Expectations
More Than A Uniform
How our students show up matters. Our dress code reflects the tone and tradition of our school and helps to set the tone for an atmosphere of learning.
The following components comprise the daily dress code at St. Joe’s:
DRESS SHIRTS
A dress shirt with a collar (point, spread, or button-down). A dress shirt is designed to be worn fully buttoned with a tie (necktie or bowtie only). If a student chooses to wear an undershirt, only solid white undershirts are to be worn. Hawaiian shirts and flannel shirts are not permitted.
COATS & SWEATERS
A sports coat, crew neck sweater, v-neck sweater, sweater vest, quarter zip dress sweater, or St. Joe’s quarter zip pullover (with SJCI logo, including approved sport-specific logos) may be worn over the dress shirt and tie. Overshirts, sweatshirts, crew neck sweatshirts, turtlenecks, turtleneck sweaters, non-SJCI pullovers, hoodies, fleece jackets and other outerwear are not permitted. Ties should be visible at all times.
Polo Shirts
When announced by the Vice Principal for Students, students may wear a St. Joe’s polo shirt instead of the dress shirt and tie as a warm-weather substitute.
While a variety of polos are available on our online store, only solid-color polos may be worn during the school day.
- Polo shirts may be purchased through the school’s online store.
- Polos must be solid in color (black, white, maroon, or gray) and feature an approved school logo.
- Polos representing school clubs or teams may be worn in place of a standard logoed polo.
- Polos must be tucked in at all times, with all buttons fastened except the top button. If an undershirt is worn, it must be solid white.
DRESS PANTS
Dress pants that are neat, worn appropriately at the waist and reach at least to the ankle bone. An appropriate belt must also be worn. Oversized pants, pants with scoop pockets, pants with grommets or elastic waistbands or gathered ankle pant cuffs, pants with sewn exterior pockets, or pants that resemble jeans in cut or material are prohibited. Additionally, pants should never be rolled up, pinned, or tucked into one’s socks.
DRESS SHOES & SOCKS
Leather dress shoes or boots with a height at or below the ankle bone (brown, black, blue, or gray are the accepted dress code colors for shoes). Work boots, winter boots, cowboy boots, footwear that gives the appearance of sneakers (with or without stripes), moccasins, slippers, shoes with fur-like interiors, canvas and multi-colored shoes are not permitted. Canvas ‘Hey Dudes’ and Uggs are not allowed.
Socks must be worn and visible. “No show” socks are not permitted.
NEATNESS & GROOMING
Students must be clean-shaven daily. Mustaches, beards and long sideburns are not permitted. Hair should be combed, neat and clean and may not hang in front of a student’s face. Extreme hairstyles are not allowed, including mullets of all kinds, mohawks, shaved in designs/patterns (including eyebrows) and most variations of dyed hair.
STUDENT ID BADGES
Students will receive a school identification card with a picture during orientation at the beginning of the school year. All students must wear their ID with their school-issued lanyard at all times during the school day. Students should also carry their ID at all other times to access the building before and after school hours, gain admission to after-school, evening and weekend events and use it for purchases in the cafeteria. A student should see Mrs. Yarbrough in the Main Office if he loses his identification card. The replacement fee for a lost ID badge is $8.
