Prayer and Liturgy

 

 

 

This invocation is familiar to Lasallians - teachers, students, parents, alumni, and Brothers - in over eighty countries throughout the world, and it is recited during the school day in a multitude of languages. This prayer from St. John Baptist de La Salle, founder of the De La Salle Christian Brothers, reminds us of our connection with God and God’s presence in our lives.

 

At St. Joe’s, a school-wide prayer begins the school day, and a moment of prayer and reflection begins each class period throughout the day. Other opportunities for prayer and reflection occur throughout the year including:

 

Held throughout the school year, the entire student body is given the opportunity to gather together on Holy Days and other occasions to celebrate the Eucharist. Students take leadership roles in all aspects of liturgical service. (See below.)

Class Liturgies
On four Sundays during the first semester, a class liturgy is celebrated for families of each of the four grades. Parents, grandparents, brothers, and sisters are invited to join St. Joe’s students for Eucharist, followed by light refreshments.

Mass
Mass is celebrated Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the chapel on campus at 7:30 am. All are welcome to join SJCI faculty, staff, administration, and students to celebrate the Eucharist.

Reconciliation
The sacrament of Reconciliation is offered on an individual basis throughout the school year and by grade level to all students during the season of Lent.

 

 

Liturgical Roles for Students:

Ministers of the Word
Student lectors proclaim God’s word at school-wide liturgies.

Ministers of the Eucharist
Eucharistic Ministers distribute Holy Communion to the congregation during Mass. Students receive training for this ministry.

Ministers of Music
Members of the various SJCI vocal music groups join their voices in praising God at all school-wide and class liturgies.
