Vocal Music

Opportunities in the vocal music program at St. Joe's are vast, giving young men with even little to no experience the chance to discover their gifts and talents. Vocal exploration occurs freshmen year in Freshmen Singers and can continue through participation in one of our many award-winning ensembles. Interested and talented singers can also receive individual voice lessons in preparation for the study of vocal music at the college level.

Vocal Music courses / ensembles offered for freshmen:
  • Arts Appreciation
  • Freshmen Singers
Participation in Freshmen Singers gives students with no prior vocal music experience the opportunity to explore the fundamentals of singing, learn the basics of reading a vocal score, and begin to sing in multiple parts.

Vocal Music Ensembles (permission from instructor required for freshman participation):
  • Glee Club
  • Varsity Singers
  • Swing Choir
The St. Joe's Glee Club and Varsity Singers perform at our all-school masses. In addition, the Varsity Singers perform throughout the WNY community at various parishes and venues.

Swing Choir is a mixed ensemble with men from St. Joe’s and women from surrounding high schools. The Swing Choir was built on the fundamental idea that we each possess God-given talents and are called to develop them and to give them away freely. This is the mission of the group. Many think it’s a choir that dances, or a dance group that sings. Truly, it is a group which ministers to anyone in need through music. We do not believe in competing ‘against’ others, instead we compete against a standard of excellence to push members to be all that God calls them to be.

Additional courses offered:
