Visual Arts
Courses in the visual arts department include introductory programming as well as advanced study to prepare students interested in studying art in college. Traditional mediums and techniques such as pencil, charcoal, and acrylic are explored, as well as digital media in our state-of-the-art graphics lab.

AP Studio in Art Portfolio: AP students will submit a portfolio with the potential to earn college credits.
Note: Each student within the visual arts program creates a portfolio of work, often used to gain admission and/or scholarship to secondary art schools, such as RIT, FIT, UB, and Pratt.
Art Club: Open to all students, art club meets weekly for various workshops, field trips, and projects. Workshops of varying mediums are offered by alumni and local artists through our Artists in Residence program.
Exhibiting opportunities: Students exhibit throughout the year at school and in the community, culminating with St. Joe's juried spring art show. Advanced students also participate in the Annual Daemen College Western New York All-High Art Exhibit, The University of Buffalo High School Art Exhibit, the Young Curator's Program & Exhibit at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, as well as in various contests as they arise. Our students have won awards in the Annual Buffalo News Cartoon Contest, the Annual Chalk Walk at the Lewiston Art Festival, and the Taste of Buffalo poster contest.
