Robotics

Robotics

Robotics is a team-based engineering program that challenges students to design, build, and program a working robot for competition.

As part of the international FIRST Robotics Competition, the season kicks off each January with a live-streamed challenge reveal. From that moment, the St. Joe’s Robotics Team, known as Team Alumiboti, has about eight weeks to strategize, build, and code a 100+ pound robot capable of completing that year’s game, all while working within a shared set of rules and a standard kit of parts.

The team meets regularly after school, working with faculty and professional mentors. Students take on a variety of roles from programming and mechanical design to outreach and communications, and no prior experience is needed to get involved.

The season culminates with regional competitions in March, where teams showcase their robots in high-energy match play.

Science Olympiad

Science Olympiad

Science Olympiad is a competitive, team-based club where students engage in hands-on science-based challenges and is considered one of the premier STEM competitions in the United States.

Each competition consists of 23 challenges that cover all science disciplines. Whether it’s building bridges and rockets to mastering biology, chemistry and physics, earth and space science and engineering topics, members prepare for local and regional competitions that test their problem-solving and collaboration skills.

The St. Joe’s Science Olympiad team meets regularly for after-school practices with mentors and professionals in STEM fields, beginning in November and attends multiple invitational tournaments beginning in December. The season culminates with the regional competition in February and the state tournament in March. St. Joe’s has qualified for the state tournament each year since the team’s inception in 2008.
