From the Classroom to the Runway

After receiving tickets from Buffalo Fashion Runway co-founder Chad Williams, students in Black Literature stepped into Buffalo’s creative community for an experience that goes beyond a traditional fashion show.

Buffalo Fashion Runway brings together designers, artists, and performers to spotlight emerging talent and build connections across the community, giving students the chance to see the themes they study reflected in real voices, culture and creativity.

Spanish, Fully Immersed

In Level 4 Spanish, juniors and seniors explored Latin American mythology and folklore, choosing stories that interested them and looking more closely at their cultural meaning. They then used AI to create visuals to go along with their work, adding another layer to the project.

The final step was presenting everything in Spanish, without notes, giving students the chance to think on their feet and use the language in a more natural way.

Learning History Where It Happened

Four juniors from the Equity & Justice Club traveled to Alabama to visit Selma and the Equal Justice Initiative’s Legacy Sites in Montgomery, places that hold deep significance in the history of the civil rights movement. They were joined by more than 30 students from around the country.

Walking through these spaces gave students the chance to engage more directly with what they’ve learned in the classroom, while taking time to reflect on the history of racial injustice and its lasting impact.
