TOM TERHAAR '87 COACHES WOMEN'S EIGHT WITH COXSWAIN TO OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL IN BEIJING, CHINA

Tom Terhaar, a 1987 graduate of St. Joe's and head coach of the U.S. Women's Rowing Team in Beijing, basked in the glow of a gold medal as the U.S. women's eight team rowed to gold in a dominant time of 6:05.34, almost two seconds faster than the silver medalists from the Netherlands. Romania, the defending Olympic champion, finished in bronze medal position.

While a student at St. Joe's, Tom participated in Ski Club, the Annual Food Basket, Intramurals, and of course, Crew. A product of the St. Joe's crew program and the West Side Rowing Club, Tom has served as the women's national coach since 2001. The women's eight last won Olympic Gold at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. This team also won the past two World Championships.
