ST. JOE'S BOARD OF TRUSTEES ELECTS NEW MEMBERS

St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute is pleased to announce that four community leaders have recently been appointed to serve on the school’s Board of Trustees. Thomas Comer ’81, James M. Denzak, Martha Niland Lamparelli, and Dennis J. Szefel have been elected to serve for a three-year term and will commence their duties in September 2008. Also joining the Board in September will be John Cambria ’82 as president of the St. Joe’s Alumni Association and Robert ’76 & Karen Rusin as president couple of the St. Joe’s Parents’ Guild.

John CambriaJohn Cambria ’82 is the incoming president of the St. Joe’s Alumni Association. He has been a member of the Alumni Board since 2002, and has served as secretary from 2003-2007. John has been involved with the alumni merchandising committee, the annual alumni golf tournament, the alumni reunion committee, and the St. Joe’s Bob Ivory Run. John has six children, and his oldest Jack, is a freshman at St. Joe’s. Currently, John is district manager for ADP (Automatic Data Processing) and resides in Kenmore with his family.

Thomas ComerThomas Comer ’81 is president, CEO, and owner of Alliance Sleep Products, Inc. in Buffalo, New York. He currently serves on the boards of Restonic Mattress Corporation, Sleep Alliance LLC, and the Buffalo Renaissance Foundation, where he is president of the board. Comer received his bachelor’s degree in 1985 from the University of Notre Dame, and his MBA in 1989 from Northwestern University – Kellogg School of Management. He resides in Amherst with his wife, Jean, and their five children.

James DenzakJames M. Denzak ’80 is the ePLM Portfolio Manager, Global Electronics Industry, for the IBM Corporation and is responsible for the overall solution strategy and portfolio of IBM’s PLM solution offerings. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and is a graduate of the IBM Client Executive program at Harvard University, Cambridge Massachusetts. He is currently the vice chairman of the board of PDES, Inc., an international standards consortium responsible for the acceleration and adoption of ISO 10303. Denzak is a strong advocate of community development. In past years, he has been the chairman of the American Red Cross local blood drive campaigns, board member of the St. Louis Church capital campaign, assistant coach for Mendon, NY little league baseball, Security Committee Member for the 69th Senior PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club, and member of the local establishment of Habitat for Humanity. Denzak and his wife, Sara, reside in Pittsford, NY with their three sons: twins Alexander and Seth (8) and Nicholas (6).

Martha LamparelliMartha Niland Lamparelli is a life-long resident of Western New York. Martha received her bachelor’s and master’s degree from State College of New York at Buffalo. She is currently a special education coordinator for the Buffalo Public Schools. Lamparelli is the general chair for Catholic Charities Appeal 2008 and currently is serving as president of Homespace Corporation, and vice chair of The Sisters Hospital Foundation. Lamparelli resides in Buffalo with her husband, Paul Lamparelli, and their two children: Mary Beth, a graduate of Nardin Academy and Rocco, a current sophomore at St Joseph’s Collegiate Institute.

Robert RusinRobert C. Rusin ’76 & Karen M. Rusin are the incoming president coupleKaren Rusin of the St. Joe’s Parents’ Guild. Robert holds an undergraduate degree in marketing from Niagara University and an MBA from Canisius College. He is currently the vice president of sales and marketing at NanoDynamics, Inc. in Buffalo, and serves as a member of the advisory council of the School of Business at Niagara University. Karen Rusin received her nursing degree from the Millard Fillmore Hospital School of Nursing, and is currently a medical case manager at the Travelers Companies, Inc. They have two children: Elizabeth, currently attending Lehigh University and Adam, a current sophomore at St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute. The family resides in Clarence. 

Dennis SzefelDennis J. Szefel is the chief administrative officer of Delaware North Companies. As a member of the company’s executive committee, Mr. Szefel oversees human resources, legal, security, retail, culinary, supply management, guest services, marketing, communication, government relations and public affairs. In addition, he leads Delaware North’s new Gaming Hospitality Group, a cross-divisional enterprise that is lending expertise in areas such as culinary, retail, lodging, recreation and guest service to the North American gaming industry. Before assuming his current position in 2002, Szefel served as the founding president of the company’s Parks & Resorts division from the time of its inception in 1993. Szefel’s leadership, including the formation of the company’s award-winning, environmental program called GreenPath, has established the company as one of the leading hotel and resort management companies in the world. Szefel resides in Getzville, NY and has two daughters: Amy Starck (married to James Starck ’90) and Julie Reid.
