Ted LinaThe Social Studies Department believes that the study of history is fundamental to understanding the world in which we live. To that end, we offer a variety of courses that explore both past and contemporary civilizations and issues. It is the study of the past that fosters a knowledge of those values most necessary in members of a democratic society. We provide a context of historical knowledge essential for an understanding of the contemporary world. By analyzing historical events, students appreciate more fully the complexity of the human experience. While history forms the foundation for social studies, the department focuses on other social sciences such as geography, political science, economics and psychology, offering our students the opportunity to expand their knowledge and understanding of the world around them.
