Scholarships & Financial Aid
St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute is committed to providing scholarships and financial aid to those families who could not otherwise afford a St. Joe's education. Through merit-based Academic Scholarships, a need-based Tuition Assistance Program, and the Supplementary Work Program, St. Joe's will continue the tradition of providing a Lasallian education.
Academic Scholarships
St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute offers academic scholarship awards to qualified incoming freshmen who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and potential. Financial need is not a factor in determining scholarship eligibility. Of primary consideration in selecting a student to receive an academic scholarship is his score on the Scholarship and Entrance Examination given prior to his acceptance into St. Joseph's. Additional criteria in determining such awards include a review of the student's transcript from grades 6, 7, and 8, as well as the recommendation accompanying his application for admission as completed by the student's teacher, principal, or counselor. A student's scholarship award is renewed automatically each school year provided his school work consistently demonstrates a superior level of achievement.
Please contact the Admissions Office at 874-4953 for more information.
Tuition Assistance Program
Limited financial assistance is available to parents experiencing severe difficulty in meeting the cost of tuition. Tuition grants which result in a direct reduction of tuition expenses vary in size and are awarded to selected families based on financial need. Application for tuition assistance is made in February after the initial registration period. Application must be made each year to maintain eligibility as awards do not automatically renew. Parents may also apply for a financial aid estimate before registration and prior to completing the official financial aid application.
Beginning with the 2011-12 school year, St. Joe's will use Smart Tuition Aid Analysis to compile the financial information necessary to make tuition assistance award decisions. Tuition aid recommendations will be provided to St. Joe's by Smart Tuition Aid Analysis, however all final tuition aid decisions will be made by St. Joe's. The following link provides more information on Smart Tuition Aid Analysis and the application process.

Supplementary Work Program
The school also sponsors a work program designed to assist students who would like to reduce the cost of tuition by working at St. Joe's. While the program is not need-based and is open to all students, it is normal for a financial aid award to include both a direct grant and an amount to be earned through the work program. Students earn tuition credits by working before and after school and during holidays, weekends, and vacations. The entry level rate is $7/hour and increases each year the student participates in the program. It is reasonable for boys to work as many as 200 hours over 12 months (July-June) without sacrificing their school work, extra-curriculars, or family responsibility.
A separate application to participate in the Supplementary Work Program is required and should be made prior to June 1.
