RENDERINGS OF NEW FACILITIES The challenge of envisioning the St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute of 2011 - the year of our 150th Anniversary - is a unique opportunity to express in our actions the tradition of service to others that is the hallmark of a Lasallian education. Site Plan Cullen Center for Excellence in Science Excellence in science has long been a hallmark of a Lasallian education. The campaign will address this commitment through the construction of the new Cullen Center for Excellence in Science. The center will include classrooms and laboratories, interfaced and equipped with state-of-the-art teaching aids, scientific instrumentation and computer technology. The center will feature two biology laboratory/instruction areas, two chemistry laboratory/instruction areas, one biochemistry laboratory/instruction area, plus one multi-disciplinary project research area that will allow our students to actively engage in scientific discovery. The complex will be a new construction. 2nd floor - Cullen Center for Excellence in Science
Here at St. Joe's, we offer a significant number of science courses and the opportunities for science learning extend far beyond the classroom. Furthermore, St. Joe's can boast about the number of alumni who move on to successful careers in science ranging from orthopedic surgeons, cancer researchers, chemists, neurosurgeons, cardiologists and nuclear cardiologists, dental surgeons, pediatricians, general practitioners, psychiatrists, and all levels of academic instructors, including our very own highly qualified teachers here at St. Joe's. All-Weather Athletic Complex St. Joe’s is renowned for excellence not only in the classroom, but in athletics as well. For decades, the Marauders have been a dominant force in Western New York high school sports and the school has become synonymous with success on the fields of play. The athletic program today offers 16 sports for our students and whether its one of the traditional foundation sports like football, basketball or baseball or one of our newer offerings such as lacrosse, soccer or wrestling, you’re sure to find St. Joe’s in the thick of championship contention.
The creation of a new All-Weather Athletic Complex will include turfing the entire field, building new bleachers and a scoreboard, expanding the existing fieldhouse facility, and constructing a domed backstop that will be incorporated onto the baseball field so as to significantly reduce balls leaving the field area. This part of the project should be completed by August 2008. This athletic complex, located on our own campus, will ensure that St. Joe's maintains a "home" advantage for all field sporting events. Now is the time for our facilities to match the excellence demonstrated by the athletic program.
Residential Space for the Brothers of the Christian Schools
Recognizing the Brothers of the Christian Schools' commitment and service to St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute, the campaign aims to address the changes that will be required in their housing needs as a result of other on-campus renovations. Our commitment is to provide dignified housing suitable to maintain the presence of the Christian Brothers’ community as a vital influence on campus. The plan calls for the Brothers to move to the third floor above the new science building. The Brothers will have a residence reflective of their needs, incorporating private living space and a chapel. Additionally, an outdoor patio overlooking the athletic fields will offer the Brothers a relaxing outdoor space to share and enjoy. St. John Baptist de La Salle had a vision of Christian education that was based on a very high ideal for the teacher-student relationship. He asked teachers to win the hearts of their students. He understood that there could be no significant learning without this kind of relationship.
These are exciting times. A new athletic complex, new science facilities, and a new home for the Brothers of the Christian Schools will usher in the 150th anniversary of St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, as well as launch us into our next 150 years.
