Religion ClassWisdom is knowledge applied. The Religious Studies program calls the student to develop abilities and skills that reflect the Core Concepts of: Respect, Responsibility and Integrity. All lessons embrace Jesus as our model, discovering in his teachings and values the Truth that reveals how the Holy Spirit is working within each of us. It is within this context that we continue the global Lasallian desire to, “Live Jesus in our hearts, Forever!”

 

5004 Religion 9 Credit: 1/2 credit
Grade: 9
The course of study focuses on what it means to be a disciple of Jesus and a member of the Catholic Church. The student will investigate: the Bible, faith, Trinity, Mary and the saints, the Church and the moral life.

5024 Religion 10 Credit: 1/2 credit
Grade: 10
This course is a “journey” through both the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures, engaging students in traditional biblical themes, while challenging them to relate the bible to their faith development and current religious and moral issues.

5034 Religion 11 Credit: 1/2 credit
Grade: 11
This course offers an overview of the moral teaching of the Church. Scripture, Church teachings and educated consciences are our guides.

5044 Religion 12Credit: 1/2 credit
Grade: 12
This course is an overview of historical and theological developments from the origin of the church to today.  The course sets Christianity in the context of history and culture, exploring how Christianity changed the world.

5046 Advanced Religion 12 Credit: 1/2 credit
Grade: 12

This is an honors level weighted course offered in conjunction with Niagara University.  Students who successfully complete this course may receive a transcript from Niagara University with three college credits for an additional fee.  Further information may be obtained by contacting Niagara University at (716) 286-8712.  The course material is the same as REL 103 offered on the university campus.  The following is the course description in the Niagara University catalog:

REL 103 - Introduction to Christianity (Christianity)
A survey of the historical and theological development of the Christian religion from its Jewish origins to contemporary American Christianity. There will be an emphasis on the key historical moments and personages who have had a far-reaching impact on the Christian tradition, especially its Roman Catholic dimension.  Aspects of the Vincentian heritage will be considered as part of the latter. Credit - three semester hours.
