Instrumental Music ( Russell Owens

The Instrumental Music program allows students to learn an instrument with no previous experience, in beginning courses for Percussion, Brass and Woodwind. Such students can join more experienced students in Concert Band and/or Percussion Ensemble. These are all credit bearing courses that meet during the school day, focusing not only on excellent performance technique, but also on music theory. The ensembles perform at our Winter and Spring Departmental Concerts and many students audition and perform in All-County and/or All-State Bands.

Percussion Instruction

Many students will also audition to be a member of the Jazz Lab Band. This group rehearses outside of the school day and performs at school concerts, as well as playing at the Annual Valentine’s Day Dance among other venues. The Jazz Band generally tours each spring, often participating in performance contests and bringing home numerous trophies.

A new addition to the Instrumental Area this spring was the development of a string ensemble that met after school and performed in the Spring Departmental Concert. This experience allows students with an expertise in various string instruments the opportunity to develop their talent at St. Joe’s.
