HISTORY OF ST. JOE'S CROSS COUNTRY
St. Joe’s has always been successful in cross country. In the late 50’s and early 60’s, St. Joe’s was one of the best teams in the Monsignor Martin League. It was in the late 60’s and early 70’s, when under the direction of Bob Ivory, that St. Joe’s became one of the best cross country teams in the country.
St. Joe’s had won both the Monsignor Martin and All- Catholic titles in the same year eight times. Through the years the team has also won 60 titles at various Invitational tournaments throughout New York State. Through the 60’s and 70’s, Coach Ivory’s team continued to dominate the Western New York cross country scene, as well as to spread their dominance across the Eastern coast as they won the prestigious Eastern States Cross Country Invitational that include schools from 16 Eastern states.
In the 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s, St. Joe’s has continued it’s reputation as one of the premier cross country teams in both New York State and Western New York under the tutelage of Mike Diggins. As the team heads into the second half of this decade, first year cross country coach Matt Hellerer will work to continue the success of this great program.
