ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM The purpose of the St. Joe's Artists in Residence program is to provide educational opportunities in the arts, which go beyond what regular department staff members can offer, exposing students to a high quality level of creative work with professional artists. These educational experiences fit in with the overall philosophy and goals of the school in the Lasallian, Catholic tradition. Artists in Residence work on various levels at St. Joe’s as follows:
The Artists in Residence concept is not new to St. Joe’s. It has always been our practice to bring in artists to present their art form and work with the students, especially within the production of the Spring Musical. Over the past three years we have formalized the program unde the umbrella of “Artists in Residence,” so as to insure its continuance and to increase our ability to offer more fine arts curriculum choices to the students. Our Artist in Residence program is off to a great start this year. We once again applied for a grant from Target to help fund it (for the fourth year in a row!). There are already 4 dance related workshops scheduled, which are open to any student (see Fall Dance Workshop link) and a special ballet/stretch workshop using Configuration Dance with our athletes is being planned. There are also plans to hold drama workshops with Vincent O’Neill (Irish Classical Theater), sculpture workshops with Larry Griffis III, film and animation workshops and a series of design workshops. Furthermore our string program will continue joint performances with the string group from Sacred Heart Academy. We are excited about all these future activities. Look for more information in the near future.
