COLLEGIATE SUMMER! is a four-week program designed exclusively for students entering their 8th grade year. By participating in Collegiate Summer! 8th graders get a chance to experience St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute and develop skills that will be useful as they prepare for high school. The program runs June 26 - July 21, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
Numerous studies have documented what educators call "summer slide." Collegiate Summer keeps students' minds engaged with morning classes including reading, writing, mathematics, science, critical thinking and technology.
In the afternoon, students will have opportunities to participate in group recreational activities using the outstanding facilities of St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, including the Robert T. Scott, AFSC Athletic Complex. A variety of activities will be offered each day, including sports such as basketball, bowling, soccer, street hockey, and volleyball; non-athletic offerings including board games, movies, improvisational games, model rockets, and art activities. In addition, a schedule of guest speakers, entertainers, and optional field trips are offered. The cost of the program is $450, with additional fees required for field trips.
